Recognising growth and innovation

We have been privileged recently to be shortlisted at, or winners of a number of industry awards celebrating growth and innovation, including the Thames Valley Tech awards, the Megabyte Emerging Stars dinner, the British Business Excellence Awards, and the UK Tech Awards.

We have sent as many of the different teams as possible, to enjoy the events, grow their networks, and represent Aker in the broadest possible way we can. Growing a company, and continuing to drive technology innovation is definitely a team sport, and wide attendance at these events is one small part of making all of the Aker family feel part of that endeavour.

We were delighted to win the Scale Up Company of the Year award at the British Business Excellence Awards, where the judging panel considered Aker to have best demonstrated a number of attributes, including:

• Market-leading growth
• Strong financial performance over a three-year period
• Outstanding leadership and management
• Innovation in products, services or processes
• Exceptional customer service
• High levels of employee engagement
• An ethical approach to business

The Aker team who attended, pictured above, certainly enjoyed themselves, although they managed to cause a bit of a stir when our newly arrived and normally stoic Scottish Chief Product Officer Mel Carrie, became understandably star-struck on stage whilst in the presence of greatness – reporting afterwards ‘…I literally bowed when I met Sir Trevor McDonald... he had no idea what on earth I was doing or why…’
